Structure of Microbial Communities When Complementary Effluents Are Anaerobically Digested

چکیده

Olive oil and pig productions are important industries in Portugal that generate large volumes of wastewater with high organic load toxicity, raising environmental concerns. The principal objective this study is to energetically valorize these effluents—piggery effluent olive mill wastewater—through the anaerobic digestion biogas/methane production, by means complementarity concept. Several mixtures piggery were tested, an increasing percentage wastewater. best performance was obtained for samples alone admixture 30% OMW, which provided same volume biogas (0.8 L, 70% CH4), 63/75% COD removal, 434/489 L CH4/kg SVin, respectively. validation process assessed molecular evaluation through Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) 16S rRNA gene. structure microbial communities both samples, throughout process, characterized predominance bacterial populations belonging phylum Firmicutes, mainly Clostridiales, Bacteroidetes being subdominant populations. Archaea genus Methanosarcina became predominant digestion, confirming formation methane from acetate, line greatest removal volatile fatty acids (VFAs) samples.

Biochar from anaerobically digested sugarcane bagasse.

This study was designed to investigate the effect of anaerobic digestion on biochar produced from sugarcane bagasse. Sugarcane bagasse was anaerobically digested to produce methane. The digested residue and fresh bagasse was pyrolyzed separately into biochar at 600 degrees C in nitrogen environment. The digested bagasse biochar (DBC) and undigested bagasse biochar (BC) were characterized to det...

When are methods complementary?

We address the issue of when software development methods are complementary, i.e., determining when a method is capable of a task that another method cannot perform. Our intent is to examine complementarity in order to help determine when to carry out method integration. We propose some factors for method complementarity, and suggest that contextdependent criteria, such as real-world domain and...

Methane production during storage of anaerobically digested municipal organic waste.

Anaerobic digestion of source-separated municipal organic waste is considered feasible in Denmark. The limited hydraulic retention in the biogas reactor (typically 15 d) does not allow full degradation of the organic waste. Storage of anaerobically digested municipal organic waste can therefore be a source of methane (CH4) emission that may contribute significantly to the potential global warmi...

Decomposition of Fresh and Anaerobically Digested Plant Biomass in Soil

Using water hyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms) for wastewater renovation produces biomass that must be disposed of. This biomass may be anaerobically digested to produce CH4 or added to soil directly as an amendment. In this study, fresh and anaerobically digested water hyacinth biomass, with either low or high N tissue content, were added to soil to evaluate C and N mineralization c...

Overcoming challenges to struvite recovery from anaerobically digested dairy manure.

Recovering struvite from dairy manure has consistently posed problems for researchers. This study separated solids from anaerobically digested dairy manure using a filtration system. Filtrate was rich in free magnesium (160 to 423 mg/L), ammonium (320 to 1800 mg N/L) and orthophosphate (93 to 332 mg P/L). High concentrations of free calcium (128 to 361 mg/L) and alkalinity (3309 to 6567 mg/L as...
